Prof. Dr. Akın Yücel

Until the end of 2011, Prof. Dr. Akın Yücel was a member of the teaching staff at Istanbul University, Faculty of Medicine Cerrahpaşa, Division of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Department of Hand Surgery. He runs a private clinic in Istanbul Nişantaşı and performs surgery at various private hospitals. His main areas of expertise are: aesthetic breast surgery, aesthetic nose surgery, body shaping surgery, abdominal tightening surgery, liposuction, endoscopic face surgery, breast reconstruction after breast cancer, skin cancer treatment and micro-surgery.

Prof. Dr. Yücel has written a great number of scientific articles that have been published in national and international scientific journals and books. He has also contributed entire chapters to books. Every year, he takes part in several national and international scientific conferences and panel discussions as organiser and/or speaker / participant. Prof. Dr. Yücel is also board member in a number of professional associations of plastic and aesthetic surgeons.

Since 2003, Dr. Yücel has been an Ex-Co member of the Society for Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery (EPCD); since 2012 he is EPCD President. From 2006 – 2008 he acted as General Secretary of the Turkish Society for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (TPCD). Currently he is chairman of the TPCD workgroup Breast Reconstruction. Besides these commitments, Dr. Yücel is a member in the following professional associations: Society for Reconstructive Micro-Surgery, Interplast Turkey, ISAPS (International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) and IPRAS (International Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery).

Akın Yücel completed his primary and middle school education at the TED Ankara College, and graduated from the natural sciences high school Ankara Fen Lisesi. In 1987 he graduated with a Ph.D. from the Medical Faculty of Hacettepe University. The same year he commenced his specialist education at Istanbul University, Faculty of Medicine Cerrahpaşa, Division of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. In 1989, he worked at the Wexham Park Hospital in Britain, and in 1992 at the University of Washington in Seattle USA. In 1994 he completed his specialist education in plastic surgery.

From 1994 to 1996, he worked at the medical faculty of the newly established Kocaeli University as founding member and member of the teaching staff in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. He also served a term as Head of Department. In 1996, he returned to Istanbul University to become a member of the teaching staff in the Division of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. He became an associate professor in 2000 and a full professor in 2008.
